Fundraising Contractor (Contract Position)

About BCSARA
The BC Search and Rescue Association (BCSARA) advocates for the 78 recognized Ground Search and Rescue (GSAR) groups and their 3,200+ volunteers across British Columbia. Our mission is to represent un-paid professional ground search and rescue community by providing advocacy, support for funding and health and safety, access to information as well as public outdoor education and incident prevention.
We are committed to strengthening the capacity and sustainability of GSAR in B.C. As our organization continues to grow, we are seeking a professional and passionate Fundraising Contractor to help us expand our revenue sources and enhance our impact across the province.
Position Overview
BCSARA is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Fundraising Contractor to lead the development and execution of our fundraising strategy. This role will focus on identifying and cultivating donor prospects, securing funding from government, corporate, and philanthropic sources, and building sustainable relationships that align with BCSARA’s values and goals.
This is a part-time, flexible contract position reporting to the CEO, with close collaboration across communications and staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Fundraising Strategy Development: Design and implement a short- and long-term fundraising plan that supports BCSARA’s strategic objectives.
- Donor Engagement: Identify and cultivate relationships with potential individual, corporate, and foundation donors.
- Grant Writing: Research, draft, and submit compelling grant applications and funding proposals.
- Sponsorship Development: Create sponsorship packages and engage potential sponsors for events, campaigns, or long-term partnerships.
- Campaign Management: Support the planning and execution of fundraising campaigns, including online appeals, peer-to-peer efforts, and donor events.
- Reporting & Stewardship: Track outcomes and prepare reports for donors, sponsors, and granting bodies; ensure donor recognition and retention practices are followed.
- Collaboration: Work with BCSARA staff and volunteers to align fundraising initiatives with ongoing programs and priorities.
Qualifications and Experience
- Proven track record of successful fundraising in a non-profit or public sector setting
- Strong grant writing and proposal development skills
- Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities
- Understanding of the philanthropic landscape in B.C. and/or Canada
- Experience working with volunteer-based organizations is an asset
- Ability to work independently, manage deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities
